The 40 minute fundraise
How much can you raise in40 minutes?
In Zambia a lesson lasts for 40 minutes. Will you give up 40 minutes of your time to fundraise for Simakakata Community School?
You can fundraise however you like. Sell cakes, host a quiz, do a sky dive. You can challenge your mates too. How about they attend a 40 minute meeting in drag? Sponsored, of course!
The money raised will buy raw materials for the final two classrooms and six teachers’ houses. The community will build the school themselves. Later in the year we’ll visit the school and show you the money in action.
What can I do with my 40 minutes?
Anything that isn’t illegal and raises lots of money for Simakakata. For example, you could get sponsored to stand on one leg for 40 minutes, sell lollies in a nightclub, or donate 40 minutes of your salary. You could get your friends together and create a 24-hour Swim-a-thon where you all swim for a 40 minutes. Pick something fun. Raise some cash!
Set-up time is excluded from your 40 minutes. And if you fancy a double “lesson” of 80 minutes then go for it. You can use Just Giving to collect sponsorship and pay in the money you raise.
Challenge your mates
40 minutes isn’t a long time, but it can be if you’re doing something you don’t like. Read, that your friend doesn’t like. Maybe they hate baked beans. How does 40 minutes lying in a bath of beans sound? Maybe they can’t keep quiet. What about a 40 minute silence? You get the idea. Challenge your friends. Get them fundraising too.
Help us grow the campaign
To reach the target we need your help. We need friends and colleagues recruiting, plus volunteer fundraising coordinators who can persuade entire schools and even celebrities to join the campaign. It’s easy to get involved. Learn how >
Fundraising target: £6,500
Why £6,500? Because this will buy all the raw materials for the final classroom the school still needs. The community are happy to donate their labour to carry out the building work, but they can’t afford the raw materials such as cement, windows and roofing sheets.
