What is the 40 minute fundraise?
In Zambia a lesson lasts for 40 minutes. Will you fundraise for 40 minutes to fund new classrooms and teachers’ houses at Simakakata Community School? You can jump, busk, run, bake and much, much more. Learn more >

Will you fundraise for 40 minutes so Sonet can go to school?

It’s a simple equation.

The more people who set up a 40 minute fundraise campaign, the more money there will be to buy raw materials for Simakakata Community School. So today we have a favour to ask.

Can you run a 40 minute fundraise in your community?

It’s a great way to bring your friends, colleagues or classmates together and a whole lot of fun too.

Here’s your 4-step guide with everything you need to know.

Running a 40 minute fundraise in 4 simple steps

If you’d like to learn more about the 40 minute fundraise before you get started please click here >

1. Get permission (if you need it)

Your workplace. Your sports club. Your university. Your WI. What do they have in common? They are all great places to run a 40 minute fundraise. With any luck you’ll just be able to get on with things, but there’s a chance you may need to get permission from someone first.

If you do then print out some of the posters below to explain the idea and point the decision maker in the direction of www.40minutefundraise.com. They can also email me at [email protected] if they have any questions.

2. Put up some posters

Once that’s sorted it’s time to put up some posters to get people interested. Click on any of the posters below to download them (pdf format – approx 1mb each), or you can make your own if you wish.

Posters to encourage people to take part – put some of these up in your community

Posters to help people fundraise

You shouldn’t put these up. Instead, show them to anyone who wants to sign up and give them a copy of their favourite(s) to help them fundraise.

3. Ask people to sign up

Give people a few days to notice the posters then ask them to take part. You can ask them directly and/or hit them with an email or Facebook message. Use the method that suits you best.

If you’re going the email route here’s some sample words, which you can amend as you wish.

Hey guys!

This [insert month] I’m taking part in the 40 minute fundraise to raise money to buy raw materials for Simakakata Community School in Zambia. The community will build the school themselves.

I’m going to spend my 40 minutes [insert how you are fundraising]. I’d like to challenge you all to join me.

You can bake cakes and sell them for 40 minutes, do a 40 minute sponsored silence, attend a 40 minute meeting in drag or even do a sky dive.

You can find out more about the campaign at www.40minutefundraise.com. There are loads more fundraising ideas, a big green sign-up button and lots of information about the school. The community are currently building the fourth classroom.

Later in the year LearnAsOne – the charity running the campaign – will return to Simakakata and show us all how the money raised is being spent.

Please join me and create your 40 minute fundraise campaign today!

To increase the number of people who sign up it’s a good idea to give everyone a nudge or reminder from time to time. Including an update of who has signed up it’s a great way to get more people involved.

4. Pay in any money raised offline and tell us how much you raised

If your community raises any money offline then the simplest thing to do is pay all the money into your bank account and pay it in using your Just Giving fundraising page.

Finally, we’d like to say thank you for all your hard work so please make a note of the web address of everyone’s fundraising page and email them to [email protected] along with your grand total.

We’ll be in touch a little later in the year with a thank you.
