Help a community in Africa build their own school

Help to fund a school in Africa
and see exactly where your money goes.

Meet Saviour. Every day she walks 14km to attend school.

When you donate to charity do you know where your money goes?

With most charities your gift goes into a big pot. You’ll probably receive an occasional newsletter about the work the charity is doing, but it’s rare that you’ll know exactly who your donation is helping.

LearnAsOne is different. Our promise to you is that we’ll share stories and photos from every school we work with. You’ll hear directly from some of the teachers and pupils. You’ll learn why they need your help, how your donation will be spent, and see the difference it makes.

Want to learn more? Then get yourself a cup of tea and take a look through 40+ blog posts from Simakakata Community School in Zambia.

The girl to your left. That’s Saviour. She walks 14km every day to attend lessons at Simakakata. She’s only ten. If you’ve got three minutes you can watch the video (left) about a day we spent with her.

The headmaster at Simakakata. He’s called George Matantilo. An inspiration man who is driving the development of the school. When he arrived lessons were taught in a borrowed farmhouse. Now there are four new classrooms and the pass rate of the year seven exams have already doubled. You can read his diary here.

Oh, and those four new classrooms. The community made all 80,000 bricks by hand and carried out all the building work too. The only help they needed was money to buy the raw materials they couldn’t afford, such as cement, roofings sheets and doors.

The progress has been amazing, but the school still need two more classrooms and six teachers’ houses. (In Zambia, if you can provide a teachers’ house, the government will provide a trained teacher for free.)
