Find that treasure.
When I was a kid my folks used to buy mini easter eggs and hide them all over the house.
Behind the fire place, in my wellies, under the bed, in the bread bin. Everywhere they could think of.
They always put two eggs side by side and on Easter Sunday it was a race between me and my sister to find all the eggs first.
We loved it!
Hunt for treasure
Could you take the treasure hunt idea and turn into a fundraiser for Simakakata Community School?
Treasure hunts are simple to organise and a great way to bring your friends and/or classmates together. You can organise a treasure hunt at any time, but it generally works best when you have good weather. There are many forms a treasure hunt can take. One of the most common is explained below.
How to organise a treasure hunt
You will need to create two things. A treasure hunt map and cryptic clues to guide the hunters. This guide explains how to do it.
-
Work out a route that will last about 40 minutes. You’ll want about four or five five check points before the treasure is found.
-
Create a map with a few key landmarks highlighted (you can reference these landmarks in your clues if you wish). DO NOT mark the check points on the map.
-
Work out a cryptic clue for each check point so the hunters know where to head next. You should provide one at the start and hide one at each check point.
-
Decide if everyone starts at the same time (hectic if you have big numbers) or if you leave a short gap between starters and base the results on time taken to complete the course.
-
Work out a prize structure. Does everyone who completes the course get a prize or is it a race where only 1st, 2nd and 3rd snaffle some treasure?
-
Set an entry price. Make sure it’s high enough to cover the prizes and raise lots of money for the school.
-
Set a date and promote the event. You can download some posters to help you.
